Talk about a weekend warrior! You will have a lot to do, but fun & interesting stuff. It is a possibility that some “homework” on Saturday evening will need to be done. Please bring a lunch or snack if you want for the breaks. I will have the coffee or tea on! The purpose of this course is to give you a “taste” of stained glass, to see if it is something you want to learn, and invest in. The window you will create will be beautiful, but simple, as we only have so much time. You will have the basic knowledge (But not the tools & supplies) to continue on making wonderful stained glass in the copper foil method. The tools needed to continue will be explained to those who are interested. After this workshop if you live locally, the studio area is available for those who have nowhere to work at home, and you can use my tools as well if you do not want to purchase your own right away. Please inquire about studio rates if interested. If this whets your appetite, a glass cutting workshop is a must to expand your skills. It is recommended for you to take a Beginner course to work on a more complicated piece. Foiling & Soldering Workshops are a great help as well. This could be the start of an incredible glass journey!

Weekend Beginner Leaded Window

Class Cost: $350.00 + taxes
Day 1: Saturday: 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Day 2: Sunday: 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Prerequisites: Cutting & fitting skills needed!
All supplies and tool use included

Another busy but enjoyable weekend! A great way to see if you like it as well; as it is totally different than copper foil work. Please bring a lunch or snack if you want for the breaks, I will have the coffee or tea on! This workshop is for the total novice or the copper foil glassworker who wants to learn leadworking. If there is a mix of “yes I can cut glass” and “no I can’t cut glass” then we will start with cutting glass with a straight edge, if not, we will jump right in! You will make a leaded mirror or window to learn the basics of the traditional method of stained glass. We will discuss the few extra tools needed to continue at home. Bonus! This also gives you the techniques to work with the hard cames, brass, copper, and zinc! The first day will be spent cutting glass, fitting to pattern, and leading. The second day, you will solder, add a hanging wire, and cement your new artwork. This is messy! Please wear old clothes or bring an apron. I will show you some ways to “dress up” the mirror with foil work or metal findings. Increase your confidence & expertise with more workshops and courses, or if you love this method, take an Intermediate Lead course to learn even more.

Weekend Stained Glass & Bevel Box Workshop

Date: Sat, 12:00 pm to 4:00 ish &  Sun. 12:00 pm to 3 ish

Prerequisites: Beginner 6 week foil course
Bevels, hinge, feet and chain included
Tools & supplies needed:

  • 1 sq. ft. art glass of your choice.
  • All tools, 7/32 foil, 50/50 solder, flux, small cardboard box with balled up newspaper to hold your 4×6 box to solder in.

IMPORTANT! Get your pattern & bevels one week or more prior to class to have prep work done!

Another often requested class! You can read how to make a box, but it doesn’t always make sense until you see it & on top of that, some of the books show the wrong way to construct a box aesthetically & strength wise! This workshop walks you through making one from scratch. The addition of bevels for the sides saves time and looks great. You are shown how you how to design your own with different lid styles and sizing. The principles of 3D construction are also learned and are applicable for all 3D construction. We have a trick for the hinge that is worth the course if only in terms of frustration! Using a hinge isn’t just for boxes and is very useful info to have under your belt. We will add feet, attach chain to hold lid and show decorative ideas. The design possibilities are endless.
